Plastic Surgery Q & A

  • Is It Necessary To Have Your Plastic Surgery Procedure In The United States Or Canada?

If you’re considering cosmetic plastic surgery abroad, you owe it to yourself to check out Mexico.  The Lake Chapala area is well known and populated with one of the largest expatriate communities in the world.  Ajijic, Mexico is the center of this large expat community.

  • Why is there a plastic surgery aftercare facility in the Ajijic, Mexico?

The village of Ajijic (as well as the neighboring villages on the southern shores of Lake Chapala) is a popular retirement/vacation community with a large population of expatriates – mainly Canadians and Americans.

Ajijic is just over a half hour drive to the metropolis of Guadalajara, home to the very prestigious Guadalajara Institute of Reconstructive Surgery where the best surgeons in Mexico, as well as medical students from all over the world, have been training in the latest surgical techniques for the past four decades.

Guadalajara is known worldwide for its state of the art medical facilities and the reputation of its surgeons.

  • Why is plastic surgery cheaper in Mexico?

In a word, lower overhead. The cost of living which includes everything from staff salaries to office and residential costs is lower in Mexico.

Another big factor is that doctors in Mexico do not have to pay the enormous medical malpractice insurance premiums like in the U.S where premiums in some states in certain practices can top $200,000.

A word of caution as you shop around in Mexico. The low cost of plastic surgery is not the only factor.  Do not decide on a surgeon because of his cheap plastic surgery prices. Just as in the U.S. or Canada, there are doctors calling themselves plastic surgeons who are not board certified in plastic surgery. A lower price might mean that it is a lower quality facility, and cheaper materials and medications may be used. This is especially so in uncertified U.S./Mexico border clinics.  Bargain surgery is not a bargain if you put your health and safety at risk.

The doctors associated with Casita Montana are first rate – comparable to surgeons in the United States or Canada, and about half the cost.
